How to install and use Lightroom presets

How to install Lightroom presets in Lightroom Classic CC (ver. 7.3 and above)

Installing and using presets in Lightroom Classic CC is as simple as it gets. Follow these 3 easy steps and you will start using the presets and enjoy beautiful photographs in no-time!

Please note: Calin Stan's presets are tested to work properly with Lightroom Classic CC ver. 7.3 and above, Photoshop CC release 19.1.6 and Camera RAW ver. 10.5. My presets are all the new .XMP file format (the old .lrtemplate files are not supported). You can try and use them on older versions too, but I cannot guarantee that the results will be the same. Please check the version you are using before buying and installing.

Step 1: Download the presets

After you have bought the presets collection of your choice, you will receive an email (*) with a download link. Please click the download link and the presets archive will be downloaded to your laptop / PC. Once you click the download link, the presets archive will be downloaded to your Downloads folder (by default) or to another folder of your choice.

(*) Please be sure to check the SPAM/Bulk folders if you don't receive the email with the download link and add our email address to your safe/whitelist recipients (or to your contact list).

Step 2: Unzip the presets

Now, go to your downloads folder and you will find the archive with the presets, there. On Windows, right click on it and select "Unzip" OR, on Mac, double-click the archive and it will unzip right away.

Now, you will have a folder with the presets unzipped inside it. One last step and were done!

Step 3: Add the presets to Lightroom Classic CC

Start Lightroom Classic CC, select an image and enter the "Develop" module. On the right side of the screen you will see a list of presets, other presets that you have installed and the default presets in Lightroom.

To install Calin Stan's set of presets or any other set of presets that you have just downloaded, click the "+" (Plus) sign near the "Presets" tab title and select "Import...". A window opens and now you have to go to the folder where you have downloaded and unzipped the presets archive, select all the presets within that folder and click the "Import" button.

That's it! Now the presets are added to your Lightroom Classic CC. You will find them grouped under "Stan's LR presets" folder and you can start using them right away!

The second way of installing presets to Lightroom and Camera RAW:

After you unzipped the presets archive that you have just downloaded, copy the extracted folder (Ctrl+C on Windows / Command+C on Mac). Now, go to:

On Windows:

C:> Users-[YOUR-NAME] > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Camera Raw > Settings

On Mac:

Users > [YOUR-NAME] > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Camera Raw > Settings

There, just paste the folder containing the presets and be sure to close and reopen Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Now, on the left side of Lightroom, under Presets and in Camera RAW you should see a group named "Stan's LR presets" containing the presets you have just installed.

How to use Lightroom presets?

After you created / opened the catalog of your choice, enter Develop module and select the image you want to apply the preset on. On the right side of your screen, in the Presets section, you can find the folder and the list of the presets that you had just installed (following the steps mentioned above).

To apply a preset to your image simply click the preset you want and all the develop settings will be applied automatically. See the result and feel free to adjust the develop parameters to your needs (check the exposure slider first, then move on to saturation and so on).

Don't forget: Lightroom presets are a powerful tool, but can also be customized and adjusted to suit your needs and your artistic visions. And sometimes you need to do just that, manually, to get the look you want. Presets make global changes to images. If you don't quite like the result directly after applying a preset, check and adjust the exposure slider first. Also, keep in mind that presets cannot be stacked and should be applied before using any layer adjustment tool, clone tool or brush.

So, enjoy a great set of professionally made presets, right away! It's that easy!
